Transform A Thon
April 23 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Jacket Transform-a-thon #1, April 23, 2-5pm
Join your fellow skiers and crafters for our first jacket upcycling event. We got spiffy new ski school jackets this year, but don’t want the old ones to end up in a landfill or the back of closets; plus, looking through our “back closets” we found some other very shabby garments. It turns out that a weatherproof jacket is also pretty good at handling wet gear, just reimagined in tote bag form.
We will work as a group to turn jackets into fabric panels and combine them with mesh to make tote bags. You can join the fun even if you don’t sew. We need people to cut, prep, pin, iron, and finish. If you do have a sewing machine in good working condition and can sew a straight seam, then we will show you everything else you need to know. If you want to attend, or have any questions, please contact Kathy Seymour at owlet01@gmail.com.
If crafts are not your thing, you can help by doing a bit of spring cleaning. We can use:
– jackets (stains, holes and broken zippers are all fine, and laundered is really appreciated)
– mesh bags
– webbing (especially long lengths of 1” wide webbing)
– shoelaces
– pet mesh (vinyl coated mesh used to create screen doors that withstand pet abuse)
