MAKING CAPITAL CAMPAIGN DREAMS A REALITY!
New Trails Being Created
In 2014 we launched a capital campaign asking for your support in helping us improve and expand our trail system. We had an ambitious goal of raising $600,000 to make these dreams a reality. You rose to the cause and we are so grateful and proud and to announce that we met our goal and put these plans into action.
KEENEY TRAIL: This trail is being named in honor of John Keeney, one of the original founders of Jackson Ski Touring Foundation. One of John’s visions was to create a trail that began at the scenic vista on the South Hall Trail connecting to the Ellis River Trail, creating an additional trail within the larger Hall/Ellis loop. This new trail will provide an exciting and challenging tour for intermediate to advanced skiers, traveling through the hardwood forests and dropping approximately 580 feet of elevation just over 4 kilometers.
KELLOGG TRAIL: The existing High Water Trail that acts as the main connection between the Hall Trail and Ellis River Trail, creating one of the most beloved loop trails on our system, has been in dire straits and is beyond repair due to seeping wet ground and serious erosion issues. These issues have made the trail difficult to groom and maintain even in years with high snowfall. For cost effectiveness and limiting the impact on natural resources, the best option was to upgrade the backcountry ski trail, Avalanche Brook. This trail will now be known as the Kellogg Trail in honor of the late Charlie Kellogg; devoted JSTF board member, Olympian, National Champion skier, and AMC Hutsman. Charlie and his family loved skiing this trail. Naming this trail in honor of him and his legacy seemed only natural. This one is for you Charlie!
